August Art Walk

The secret is out. A few years ago, I started attending the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk with a few thousand people. This past Thursday, there must have been around 10,000 people at the Art Walk. I’m kind of excited and bummed all at the same time. I am so happy for all the downtown businesses making money from the walk, but because of all the people, it’s super hard to see all the art. Each gallery was filled to capacity. The pedestrian traffic was about as bad as the 101 on a Friday at 5pm. The art walk used to be my secret– a free event, with the best people watching in the world. There’s still amazing people watching, I mean, there’s thousands more people (and for some reason, there are tons of attractive people). It’s just getting too trendy. I liked it better when it was an under-the-radar type of event. Maybe it’s just a Summer thing—and it’s free, so you can’t beat that. Los Angeles is full of emerging artists and it’s nice to see Angelenos appreciating this new art.
This month, I arrived at Art Walk around 8 pm–not much time to scope out the scene. But, I did manage to get a few photos before my camera battery died.
