CLEVELAND ART

I discovered Cleveland Art a few years ago when I was co-designing a loft for Pioneer.  Since I first discovered  the “hot” home store, it’s  moved locations (just a couple of blocks away) to a store front on Hewitt Street near Urth Cafe.

“Cleveland Art was founded in 1994 by Jason Wein. While working at the family salvage yard as a young man he saw the potential of industrial machinery and surplus being repurposed and recycled as functional design for the home, office and retail setting. For well over a decade now, Cleveland Art has been at the forefront of vintage and recycled industrial design.

In keeping with this tradition, Cleveland Art also uses steel, wood, and glass to manufacture selected lines of furniture, lighting, and retail display for clients throughout the United States and abroad. These clients include architects, interior designers, hotels, restaurants and retail stores…” *

What makes Cleveland Art one of my favorites? It’s full of amazing, authentic Industrial furniture and accessories. Many of their items come from old factories and warehouses.  There are so many great one-of-a-kind pieces that make perfect loft decor.   I don’t suggest furnishing your entire loft with industrial items, as it creates a very cold, hard feeling.  But, a few fabulous industrial pieces really connect the old space with a more contemporary design aesthetic.

Here are a few pieces I’m really digging right now.

c

These rolling side tables would make excellent nightstands.

Large vintage work tables make excellent kitchen islands.  Plus there’s lots of storage underneath for decorative tableware.

I think this piece is really unique. It would look super good as a side table in a living room area.

I’m obsessed with orange right now–especially this vintage hue.  If I had any more space for books, I’d buy this in a second and use it as a bookshelf.

Lofts lack storage. These vintage industrial bins are a great place to store art supplies.

I love this lamp.

This antique clothing rack is the perfect piece for a long entry hall or a laundry room.  You can store shoes in the bottom bins, and hang coats on the hooks.  If only my laundry room was bigger than a closet.

Be sure and check out the rest of Cleveland Art’s  inventory online. They’re always getting shipments of cool products.  Their stuff is so rad that it’s been featured in Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Home and Elle Decor.

My neighbor, artist Lisa Solberg, sent me the information about the Arts District Open Studio  tour this weekend, as her studio is one of the stops on the self-guided circuit.

ARTS DISTRICT OPEN STUDIO TOUR

Saturday, December 5th
Noon- 7pm

Downtown Los Angeles Arts District
Holiday Limousine shuttle service

WRAP AFTERPARTY @: EAST 3RD STEAKHOUSE from 7pm to 2pm hosted by Edgar Varela and Jerico.

“On December 5th, the TRUE Downtown Arts District will open the doors of cafés, galleries, performance venues, and 40 studios (and counting) in the first of a new Open Studio Tour series.

Since Bohemian squatters were followed by controversial city zoning in 1981, this turn of the century industrial neighborhood has had everything from crack dens to half-empty high-rises confusing its reputation within the city.

Regardless of public opinion (or awareness), artists, designers, architects, writers, and performers new and old have continued to make extensive and impressive work in the area. The December event is part holiday season Art Walk, part cultural reminder that the post-industrial downtown never stopped producing. The district also hosts internationally well-known graffiti walls that draw many visitors on a daily basis.

The self-guided tour will include lofts (821 Traction Ave; the Toy Factory and more), private galleries as EVFA Gallery, Tarryn & Theresa Gallery and ADC Gallery and many of the areas well-known restaurants as Metropol, Zip Fusion, e3rd and Wurstkuche. Bordered by Alameda on the west, the Los Angeles River on the east, Temple on the North and 7th Street on the South, the parameters are contiguous enough that a shuttle will make rounds on the quarter-hour.”

I am so in love with industrial home and architectural elements right now.

There’s a great store, a little bit closer to home—called Cleveland Art
